The November Holiday for Toilets

Dependable Service Since 1926

It may seem kind of crazy, but there is a day to celebrate your toilet: November 19th, National Toilet Day. While most of us don’t even stop to think about our toilets until they stop working, it is good to take a moment to think about this component of our home that is probably one of the most used as well as one of the most underrated. However, you can celebrate your toilet by turning it into a great source of water conservation: the installation of a low-flow toilet.

Regular Toilets Are Water Guzzlers

It’s true. If you’ve had your toilet for quite a while, around 15 years or more, you likely have what’s known as a regular toilet. This kind of toilet uses about 7 gallons of water per flush, making it quite the water guzzler. A low-flow toilet uses less than half of that: about a gallon and a half. And it does so at no inconvenience to you.
When low-flow toilets first came onto the marketplace, they weren’t well designed. This resulted in poor flushing and waste removal. With some important tweaks to the design of the toilet, low-flow toilets are more powerful than regular toilets but do the job using far less water.

What Changed?

There were three major changes in the design. The first was the design of the bowl. With regular toilets, the water tends to sit at the back of the bowl; with a low-flow toilet, the water sits at the front of the bowl. The second change was moving the bowl outlet (the hole in the base of the bowl) to the middle. This helps move waste more quickly. The third and last design change was creating a larger flush valve. This allows more water to rush into the bowl more quickly, so that waste is quickly pushed out of the bowl.

You can save up to 30% of your annual water usage by switching to a low-flow toilet. Call the plumbing pros at Bell Plumbing and Heating today and see how we can help you celebrate your toilet in Denver!
